What if the room understood what mattered?
We are developing a vision for homes, hotels and destinations that respond to the people who use them. Our Intelligent Environments programme brings architecture, connected services and the INTELLICA OS Platform into a shared research direction.
A well-designed space already responds to human needs through light, proportion, material and movement. At Future Tech One, we want to extend that care into the systems that operate the space. The aim is an environment that is easier to use and better able to adapt, while leaving its occupants in control.
A shared understanding of the space
Connected devices do not automatically produce a connected experience. Lighting, climate, access and hospitality services often operate with separate assumptions. Our research asks how these systems could share enough context to respond coherently to a person’s needs.
We envisage INTELLICA as a common interface for expressing those needs. A guest might describe how they want to use a room, rather than navigate a different control for every adjustment. Behind that interaction, each service would need defined permissions, appropriate local control and a dependable way to operate when connectivity is lost.
Personal when invited, private by default
A responsive environment must distinguish the person who lives there from a visitor, a member of staff or a guest whose stay has ended. We are exploring how Avatar Me could support that relationship within INTELLICA, with identity and permissions limited to the task and the setting.
The design question is as much about departure as arrival. When someone leaves a hotel, access should end in a way they can understand. Personal preferences should not become a permanent trace across every place they visit. These are requirements for our research direction, not claims about a service already in operation.

From individual buildings to future infrastructure
Our interests extend from homes and hospitality to regeneration and connected destinations. At that scale, energy, water, mobility and public space have to be considered together, with decisions grounded in the character and needs of the place.
We are examining how an intelligence platform could help make those relationships visible and support better operational decisions. Any claim of lower resource use or improved performance would need measured evidence from a defined setting. We see long-term stewardship as the objective, with technology serving the place and the people who depend on it.
Physical space, expanded thoughtfully
Mixed reality also forms part of our vision. It could help someone experience an unbuilt environment, bring a remote collaborator into a shared workspace or give a hospitality setting new uses. We want these possibilities to complement physical comfort and human connection.
At FT1 Labs, Intelligent Environments remains a research programme. We are bringing our work on INTELLICA, identity and connected systems into a common architectural conversation. The ambition is a place that can evolve with its occupants, supported by technology that remains understandable and under their control.
